Epiphany in the club

This is going to sound terribly embarrassing but I'm pretty sure I had an epiphany while I was in a club last weekend.

It was the weirdest feeling but I was in the club and a song came on and I was struck straightaway. I can't explain it but I was arrested by it. It's funny, I'm sure I've heard it a couple of times in my life on other occasions but I could never, ever catch who sang it and what the song was - and this fully irritated me.

Anyway, I was determined to find out what it was. For some reason I could hum the singing of it but it came out as gibberish. When I texted my mate to see if he knew what it was, what little clues I gave him just made him laugh as it made no sense.

So I was driving home last night fully trying to recall what this song was and I had an epiphany. I suddenly remembered like five words of the chorus and that's literally all it took. Googled those words at a red light and there it was! Sean Garrett, singing a track called Feel Love featuring none other than J. Cole.

Ahahaha, yes. I can't even describe how fulfilled I currently am based on this lol.

It's the tune. It's the rapping. It's the lyrics. It's cute and I'm hooked by the entire package. I mean who can overlook a track where the artist mutters that you pull an emotional vibe from my soul, look at me you got my heart beating like my back is filled with batteries.

If a guy ever said that to me, especially the part about the batteries, my heart would melt. But that's just me :)

In other news, I just wanted to say that I heart eggs. Eggs the food and eggs in the form of inaimate objects like toys.

Here is my eggman. I love him to death :)

Floating thoughts

Don't pray that God puts someone in your life; pray to be ready when they come.

When I heard this uttered it stuck to me like glue.

Embarassingly enough I heard it when I was watching a strangely compelling Bravo TV series called Millionaire Matchmaker which is all about one lady, Patti Stanger's mission to matchmake wealthy men and women with life partners. One of the millionaires who had sought her services, Brandon, said it while she was interviewing him in his quest for love.

I guess we're all guilty at one point for wishing it. When we're feeling lonely, or pitying our 'poor luck' or lack of success in love we think to ourselves, 'When am I going to find someone who I can be with?'

I'm not referring to the person that you simply click with. I'm also not referring to that person you share that supposedly profound connection. Because those things, you can share and come across with a handful of people throughout your life. What I'm talking to is that person you share those things but also understands the logic because how irrationally or rationally you live your life and treats you with the dignity and respect all of us deserve.

Now that last thing is something that's really hard to find. For me personally I find that it's not particularly difficult to find connections with people and discover a common ground that you can base a friendship on. Conversations can flow great and you can so easily think, 'Wow, this person and I have a connection.' But connections are only one facet of something far more complicated. Connections wear thin and after a while you're kind of like, 'Why am I underwhelmed?'

For instance think of the concept of friends with benefits. For me, to put it bluntly, I think it's farcical. Call me old school, call me conservative and very close minded but I'm not entirely convinced by the concept. According to psychological studies quoted in Psychology Today, over 50 percent of young people in their 20s are engaging in these arrangements but I'm still under the impression that it's just a half-arsed version of a relationship that's not really a relationship.

Everyone wants to be wanted, everyone wants to be desired and liked. Human nature also makes us yearn for things like security and loyalty and this comes in many forms through affection expressed both verbally and physically. Now when someone propses the concept of friends with benefits that makes me think of two things: Call me overly serious and perhaps requiring 'a life' but is not the fact that you are asking me to enjoy no strings attached physical activity with you pretty much offering me a half arsed relationship. It's like offering on a platter all the perks of satisfying your sexual desires until you come across the person you want to be with without the requirement for you to commit, be loyal or partake in anything that builds meaning. All the things I mentioned above that we naturally yearn for a totally undersatisfied.

For me, I can't fathom anything worse than that. To me I think it's one person coming out on top and there's always someone who loses out. Either way, I gotta admit that it would take two very strong people who can easily divide their emotions and the physical who could maintain such a relationship without emerging hurt. Kudos to that.

All I can say is it's best to simply avoid those arrangements. Power on, even if you give in momentarily give yourself a break and realise your human. Don't let people make you feel bad for having your own way of thinking and saying you are taking life too seriously. You let them live their life so they should let you live yours.

Wait as you've been waiting this entire time and let the kid in you hope :)

Dots!

The most random thing that makes me happy (simply by looking at it) is dots. I don't know what it is about dots but the sight of them makes me smile inside and out.
My phone case captures this obsession perfectly.

Bright yellow plus dots equals must buy! Made by Kate Spade I was immediately drawn to it when I saw it at a mobile phone kiosk in Mount Druitt. Out of the hundreds of cases they had on display this was hands down the only case I wanted and required. I had been holding out for the perfect case, risking my phone cracking at any point after my physical assault, and this case came at a perfect time - wonderful dots and all!

On the other hand, while I was in Thailand I came across this cute dotty kaftan. Found it in a random market in Bangkok and was immediately hooked.  Cute hey?

Finally I've got bikini tops and shopping bags in the shape of dots!

Bikinis: similar to this...

Shopping bags: identical to this but in pink...

My current wishlist: a dotty bag...

... and a dotty makeup bag!

Song I'm currently crushing on...

Rehashing some tracks I found on a CD my friend burnt for me I found this track I used to thrash with the replay button - F.I.L.A by The Dream.

Radio killer...

Whales and pins

It's been a long while since I've blogged so apologises to my blog for neglecting you.

Life's been busy with alot of things happening, things ending. Today was the final day we had for a particular contract at work with over 70 people losing their jobs which was really sad. It must have been an odd sight for alot of the passengers we were checking in to witness so many of us hugging each other when 5:30pm came this afternoon. We'd be halfway through explaining immigration law to them and suddenly one of us would appear behind the other and give each other a big hug goodbye. We've seen each other so much, worked with each other, learnt from each other that I'm really sad to see it all happen. I hope we bump heads again.

Other things have ended too but for the better. Relationships are complicated but when it shouldn't be that complicated and could simply be simple, that's when you know there's a problem. People shouldn't dictate who you speak to, dictate how you ought to conduct your life and make you feel bad for standing up for values like honesty and openness and that's the end of my rather ungraceful rant haha.

What's changed? Well my little sister is currently overseas completing her exchange in Shanghai. She's been there since February and from what I've heard from her, she's enjoying herself alot which is all our family could hope for! I'm coping better than I thought - I thought I'd fall to pieces but at moments, it can be sad knowing that one of the closest people in your life is a very long way away - but alot of people experience that everyday and in far greater depth which puts things in perspective for me.

In other news, I've rekindled my love for buying and admiring kooky things.

The other day I bought a card randomly from Typo simply because I love the fact there was a whale on it. It's currently sitting pretty on the top of my cabinet next to my wodden train which I made in Yr 9 Woodwork and a photo of my grandma.

I also bought a collection of pins which you can tack things onto coreboard. I don't have a corkboard but I'm obsessed with bright and dotty things I couldn't resist the urge to buy something redundant to add to my collection of other redundant things haha.

Also, in the rare moments I'm not required to wear my work uniform, I've been wearing a top I fell in love with while I was in Bangkok. I found this top at the markets and loved the cut of it - shoulderless and slouchy is something I've currently loving with tight, fitted jeans!

Apparently the Thai writing on the front translates to 'Come in! Come in!' in the context of shopkeepers shooing people to come into their stores but when shopkeepers were pointing and laughing at it I got self conscious thinking that it was saying something offensive instead!

Finally came across some awesome dance clips and choreography by a guy called Brian Puspos from the States. The way in which he moves is so fluid and sensual that I'm in absolute awe as to how he can control his body like that. Not only that but the music he dances to is great *sigh*

Check him out doing 'Wet the Bed' by Chris Brown...

And finally the sequel to the above video 'Poppin,'' also by Chris Brown.

Impending December

It's been almost three months since my last post and currently in awe at how fast the year has gone! Weather's been wonderful the past week with a touch of humidity but turned to shits in the past few days where it's all been rain, rain, and rain haha.

Anway, the rain's given me an opportunity to be a hermit and explore a few new tracks online.

Have stumbled across an artist called Frank Ocean, whose basically an American singer-songwriter from New Orleans. He's penned songs for Brandy, John Legend and Beyonce, but released a mixtape earlier this year called nostalgia, ULTRA. It is freaking awesome! Check it out when you have a chance.

Some tracks you might recognise floating around...

Novocane. Very explicit track. Haha, listen and you will know what I mean - nice beat though.

Swim Good. Another unusual track but just as good.

Also, in recent weeks Drake has released a new album titled Take Care.

Whilst I don't think it's as good as his earlier work, I still think that there's some standout tracks worth listening to like Practice, Crew Love and Make Me Proud.

Ushering the first days of Spring

The past two weeks have been so so good. Really happy with how things are going right now, with the exception of my door handle breaking from the inside - dang it! Totally random, unexpected and ended up with this bit of plastic in my hand rather than attached to the door. Ooops...

Other than that, the weather has been awesome as well. The sky is this beautiful blue with clouds here and there and the warmth of the sun has been incredible. I had two days off in a row mid week and so randomly bought a bike! Haha I walked it to have a look, mildly curious, and ended up walking out with a new bike vintage styles and with this beautiful rustic red frame.

I've been riding it around the place, to and from the station as well as to my friend's house in Claremont Meadows. It took about 50 minutes to get back home but the initial journey to his place took like an hour and a half because I was biking around the wrong entry point. Seriously, I was going nuts on my bike - not a pretty sight hahah! But still good fun :) Thank GOSH for mobile phones... I would have been stuffed otherwise in some random street in Claremont Meadows like three streets away from his place :)

Why did I buy a bike?

To be honest, I'm not quite so sure but what I do know is that it's like becoming a kid again. When I was younger I was such an avid ride - I'd almost forgotten. I was almost scared when I jumped on the bike to test ride it that I'd totally forgotten how to ride... But the moment I stepped on it was fine - the weirdest feeling.

My dad would take myself, my little sister and my big sis out to the streets and the four of us would just cycle - four in a row. To the most random places but it was fun and it was a good memory. Plus I love that feeling of just hurting uphill and feeling the breeze on my skin as I go downhill.

Frick! Let's just say that it is awesome :)

In other news I've fallen in love with collecting cute, little bright earrings. Alot of girls are into their diamonds, their pearls but for me, I love the little cute earrings which are a bit random and bright. Haha, you really ought to see my earring rack - it will honestly hurt your eyes :)

And finally my favourite is my Pac Man pair.

I love that they are not the same on each side and are a bit kooky and unexpected. Normally people do a double take and ask me, 'Are you wearing Pac Mac earrings?'

Haha. Yes I am :)

Miss M.I.A

I've been M.I.A for a while but just been keeping myself busy with work and bumming around :) Work's been going really well. We've been on an awesome streak where we're pushing early or on time so I'm on cloud nine!

Otherwise I've come across some really awesome tracks like the following. Have been nuking the replay button big time! Haha.

Work out by J. Cole. I heard it on Clinton' Spark's Smashtime Radio segment on 96.1 and was hooked immediately.

All I Want is You - Miguel featuring J. Cole. Can I just say that Miguel is freaking awesome! Check out his other songs like Sure Thing and Quickie.

I've also entered the world of online shopping and gone nuts on some Motel Rocks dresses.

Loving this dress and it's 60s mod look. Immediately pressed BUY when I saw it!

This coral dress was also something I bought. It's gorgeous isn't it? I like how it has the black intricate pattern on the shoulders and fittedness throughout. Very cute!
